- Coming into the world in 1944, these rifles were made to address some of the issues British Imperial troops were having with the longer No.4 MkI rifles in the Asian and Pacific theaters of WW2. The barrel was shortened to 18.75″ and a cone flash hider was added with a bayonet lug. The bayonet was changed from the spike style to the clip point fighting knife. Lighting cuts were made to the receiver to reduce overall weight. While this wasn’t the perfect solution, but it was a better one. It had a short service life being replaced replaced in 1960, however it was used in multiple conflicts such as WW2, Korean War, the Malaysian Emergency (where it got the nickname Jungle Carbine), and Vietnam.
