Here we have a No.1 Mk III SHT LE (AKA SMLE) , the best-known of the Lee Enfield rifles. It was introduced on Jan. 26, 1907, along with a Pattern 1907 bayonet. It featured a simplified rear sight arrangement and a fixed instead of a bolt-head-mounted sliding, charger guide. The design of the handguards and the magazine were also improved and the chamber was adapted to fire the new Mk VII high velocity spitzer .303 ammunition. This was the main service rifle of the British Empire and its commonwealth until the next variant would be introduced in 1915. The new variant, the No.1 Mk III* would delete the magazine cut off, the long range volley sights, the rear sight windage adjustment, and the cocking knob changed to a slab style with serrations,
The rifle we have here is a great example that retains almost all of the original features of the No.1 Mk III except for the volley sights. The magazine cut off, rear sight windage adjustment, and round cocking knob are all still present. The stock/handguards is in good condition with signs of (possible) arsenal repair. This will make a great addition to your collection!
Due to the size and care needed to ship this rifle correctly, the shipping cost will be higher.
